Standard 7
7.1 Meet professional ethics and responsibilities
Understand and apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession.
Evidence:Duty of care for your students is a number one priority in my opinion. You need to meet your professional responsibilities and maintain the well being of your students.
There is a special need for caution when using digital resources and the Internet in particular. The reason for this is that unless the school has a system set up to block things such as phishing scams and inappropriate websites/content, that students may be exposed to things they shouldn't be. It is not only for protecting what the students see and access, but also what others can see and access about the students. Students' safety is paramount and any personal information or identifiers should be made confidential.
7.2 Comply with legislative/administrative/organisations
Understand the relevant legislative, administrative and organisational policies and processes required for teachers according to school stage.
Evidence:
As pre-service teachers without sufficient knowledge or experience with most legislative, administrative and organisational requirements that
Teachers need to comply with it is difficult to understand what exactly is expected of teachers in the service.
However there are many websites and resources available to find out what sort of policies and frameworks may be in place at schools. For example, there is a relatively new early childhood framework available in Australia called "My time, our Place" and early learning Centre’s and OSHC services are required to meet the standards in the framework.
As teachers in training, by working on the AITSL standards and building up a repertoire of knowledge and evidence for the standards, essentially we are fulfilling some legislative, administrative and organisational requirements that will be essential as graduates and working in the profession.

7.3 Engage with parents/carers
Understand strategies for working effectively, sensitively and confidentially with parents/carers.
Evidence:
Engaging with the parents/carers is essential for working effectively, sensitively and confidentially.
You should have a system in place that allows information and communication to be available to all students/parents and carers.
Taking into consideration that not all families have emails or maybe personal mobile phones.
While emails can be an effective way of distributing information, also have it available in other ways. Maybe for families that check Facebook, you could make a group page where you post announcements about upcoming tasks or notices (private group for parents or older students possibly), using the Getbusi app you could communicate information and engage with parents/carers. Also the good ol' phone call is effective and is a great way to build a positive relationship with families as its more personal for each student instead of a group email.
7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and community
Understand the role of external professionals and community representatives in broadening teachers professional knowledge and practice.
Evidence:
There are many ways to engage with professional teaching networks and the broader communities through technology. Many associations have websites and discussion boards that you can join and talk about teaching in your particular field or interest. There are groups on face-book that you can share resources or methods with other teachers and engage in discussions. For professional development and learning it is recommended to join teaching associations especially in your field of curriculum so that you can learn and engage with other teachers.

During my practicum experiences I have been given the opportunity to engage with teaching networks and the community. Through fundraising events and social evenings at the schools I have been able to develop my professional learning and social skills.
Attended a Professional Development session at the 2014 JLTASA Conference entitled "Networking Sessions and Keynote Address" where I was able to network with other Japanese Teachers in South Australia and collect a variety of useful resources (Certificate can be found at bottom of this page)
