Standard 6
6.1 Identify and plan professional learning needs
Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in identifying professional learning needs.
Evidence:AITSL standard 6.1 is all about reflecting on your professional practice and making plans to improve it through professional development.
Teachers could possibly use an app on an IPhone/Ipad and make a list of goals for their professional learning needs and every time you do something for the goals you can check it off. This could be like a progress map to show visible evidence of professional development.
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
Understand the relevant and appropriate sources of professional learning for teachers.
Evidence:
AITSL standard 6.2 refers to engaging in professional learning that improves practice.
Through effective use of digital resources teachers can engage with other professionals and collaborate and share ideas and resources.
Additionally, teachers have access to professional development through digital resources such as online research articles and journals. Through websites such as SCOOTLE, teachers can share resources that have worked for them in the classroom so there is a number of helpful games/articles/lessons that are made available. By using these online communities, teachers can engage in professional discussions and conversations and further their knowledge and enhance learning.
In addition to these online learning platforms, I have been involved in professional learning through sessions with Lady Gowrie during my time as an OSHC worker. Also attended professional learning and development at my two-practicum experiences in 2013.
Attended a Professional Development session at the 2014 JLTASA Conference entitled "Networking Sessions and Keynote Address" where I was able to network with other Japanese Teachers in South Australia and collect a variety of useful resources (Certificate can be found at bottom of this page)
6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice
Seek and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and teachers to improve teaching practices.
Evidence:
AITSL standard 6.3 is all about engaging with other teachers and colleagues to improve practice.
Like standard 6.2, through online communities such as Facebook and Edmodo, it is now possible to easily get in contact with other teachers and find out methods/strategies and resources that are good and engage in professional conversations. In a more local setting, teachers can use ICT such as emails to communicate with colleagues in their school and locale. At both of my practicum experiences I was able to share a number of professional conversations with the teachers and staff from both schools.

6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning
Demonstrate an understanding of the rationale for continued professional learning and the implications for improved student learning.
Evidence:
Using various digital resources and technology related methods/tools there are many opportunities to apply professional learning and student learning. Students seem to engage more in lessons when it is relatable to them, and using technology and digital resources is a great platform for this.
For professional learning, there are many online communities and associations that teachers can get together and exchange strategies and resources. For example: There are some teaching communities on the social network site Facebook that have been created for the purpose of Professional learning and development. Online platforms are convenient and generally accessible anytime and any place.
For the improvement of student learning, it is first essential to know your students and what works for them. For example: If there is a class of 25 students that all have iPhones/Ipads/iPods you could incorporate the use of these into the lesson/unit. An example of this in use is doing a scavenger hunt using QR codes. The students would need a QR reader downloaded onto their device (or if only a few people have a device students could be organised into groups where at least one person has a device) then starting in the classroom they would scan the QR code and be given the next clue, once they find that location there would be another QR code. This process would be repeated until they reach the destination. This is potentially a great lesson for a language class, where the directions could be in the language and the students need to be able to comprehend the clue in order to proceed to the next step.
Another digital resource that can be used for both professional learning and student learning is www.todaysmeet.com, which can be used for live feedback throughout the lesson.
Could be used while watching a film in a language class, and as students are watching the movie, they can make comments or write down words/phrases that they would like explained or find interesting. Then at the end of the film the teacher could go through the comments as a class.
